Management Consulting:

Enterprise Architecture

Although Enterprise Architecture (EA) implementation within the Federal government is a requirement, at G&B we believe that the EA is also an important agency investment that will provide significant tangible benefits.  The EA is the foundation for getting the information technology (IT) resources needed to support current and future agency business operations, and the EA provides the means for enhancing collaboration, achieving standardization, and reducing costs. However, to gain the most from the EA it must be used.  Our enterprise architects refer to achieving valuable EA usage as “operationalizing” the EA. To be an “operationalized” EA (OEA) the EA must:

  • Be understood and supported by agency executives, managers, and stakeholders.

  • Be comprehensive and accurately portray the agency “baseline” and “target” EA models and transition plans.

  • Be compliant with legislation and executive guidance.

  • Be accessible to all stakeholders.

  • Be integrated with related IT management programs and practices, e.g. Capital Planning Investment Control, IT Security, Program and Project management.

  • Be institutionalized through an effective integrated governance structure.

The G&B EA team can help your agency achieve and maintain an OEA from any stage of EA maturity.

G&B enterprise architects are ready to support any or all EA life-cycle activities. We can:

  • Provide education and outreach.

  • Provide life-cycle EA development and maintenance support including Segment EAs and sequencing plans.

  • Ensure compliance and readiness for required external submissions/reviews, e.g. Office of Management and Budget.

  • Help select EA decision support tools, design and implement EA web portals, provide user training.

  • Support EA program coordination and liaison activities and integrated process development.

  • Assist in board structure development, support and policy and procedure development/ analysis.

We have successfully provided EA services to Federal agencies including the Departments of Interior, Agriculture and Housing and Urban Development as well as the Bureau of Land Management, US Geological Survey, and the National Institutes of Health. Our enterprise architects stay abreast of all relevant legislation executive guidance as well as best practices and EA tools. To foster integrated governance they work closely with both G&B and government capital planning experts, IT security specialists, and IT project managers. G&B is ready to support every aspect of the EA program—development, integration, maturation, and achieving OEA—valuable EA usage.
